No regrets!

In life there are lots of directions we can take, and only we one that we can't - that direction is backwards. We can only move in a forward direction, but remember ~ it is still a direction of our choice. So there is no sense regretting the direction you chose last year or ten years ago. Just choose a new one and keep on moving, eventually you'll get to where you want to go!

Reflection

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest ~ Confucius I have been in a reflective mood lately. Really thinking about what values are most important to me and how to live my life according to those values and principles. This quote from Confucius, reminded me of the bitter taste left from those experiences in which I did not live by my principles.

the art of worldly wisdom

I came across this passage from Baltasar Gracian's The Art of Worldly Wisdom ~ "Know Yourself. Know your talents and capacity, in judgement and inclination. You can not master yourself unless you know yourself. There are mirrors for your face, but none for the mind. Let careful thought serve as your substitute".

One of the main reasons I decided to study psychology in college was to better understand myself. I have also found that reading the stories and experiences of others and then honestly contemplating what I would have done in that same predicament, also allows me to get a clearer picture of who I am and what I stand for. So time alone each day is essential for me, so that I may review my own experiences and analyze my actions in order to better understand myself ~ so I can decide what beliefs are truly important to me and which I can leave behind.
