my journey

Saturday mornings are a nice time to reflect on all the places you've been and the places you are going and the all of the interesting things you learn along the way!

Amethyst Dreams

Amethyst is used as a dream stone. Put an amethyst under your pillow to bring about pleasant dreams, or rub it across your forehead to offer relief from a headache. The Ancient Egyptians used the amethyst to guard against nightmares.

the art of worldly wisdom

I came across this passage from Baltasar Gracian's The Art of Worldly Wisdom ~ "Know Yourself. Know your talents and capacity, in judgement and inclination. You can not master yourself unless you know yourself. There are mirrors for your face, but none for the mind. Let careful thought serve as your substitute".

One of the main reasons I decided to study psychology in college was to better understand myself. I have also found that reading the stories and experiences of others and then honestly contemplating what I would have done in that same predicament, also allows me to get a clearer picture of who I am and what I stand for. So time alone each day is essential for me, so that I may review my own experiences and analyze my actions in order to better understand myself ~ so I can decide what beliefs are truly important to me and which I can leave behind.

What does your color say?

Orange is a power color.  It stimulates enthusiasm and creativity. Orange means vitality with endurance. Lady luck's color is orange, and I have heard that if you want a change in your life, burn an orange candle for 7 nights! (worth a try, no?)

Try orange on for yourself and see what powerful, creative, energy you can wield!

{Soul Searching}

At the center of your being, you know who you are and what you want . . . .

I think too often we suppress our true desires, either because we think we should do what someone else wants instead or we think our wants might be too grandiose or out of our reach. Looking back, I find that the things I remember most or I am most proud of, are those things that I truly wanted with all my heart and dreamed of, sometimes for years before they came my way.  What about you?

Bucket List #6

With all this crazy talk of the rapture today ~ it really just leads me to think of things I want to make an effort to do and see in this lifetime {however long it lasts}, and a visit to India is one of those things. I want to ride a painted elephant, visit the Taj Mahal and get exotic henna tattoos! Looks like fun huh!

take me with you when you go . . .

Dreaming of colorful adventures on this sleepy gray Saturday morning . . .

Living in color

Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions. ~ Pablo Picasso
With summer around the corner, I find myself craving color. Summer is the happiest time of year for me. I love the sunshine and warm days, and my emotional state becomes lighter and more carefree. I want to surround myself in bright bold colors and dream of far away exotic lands I might travel to!

emotional jellyfish

When someone upsets you, you can chose to go on the defense and construct a wall to block out the emotional situation or, you can choose to be like a jellyfish ~ free-floating. You allow the emotional situation to surround you. You simply accept what the other person says, all the while taking in the full surroundings, including the temperature of the water or the spirit that the words are said in.

You aren’t mortally wounded by what the other person says or does, it passes right through you. However you are not in denial either, you have clarity, presence of mind and focus. This is what it means to be an emotional jellyfish.

bugle beads

I picked up this silence & noise skirt at Urban Outfitters a couple years ago, and fell in love the bugle beaded scalloped fringe, but never really had the right top to wear with it . . . until I came across this beaded vintage blouse - no tags to identify where it came from, but now I have a top ~ fitting ~ of this super cool skirt, no?!
