Man's best friend

"Outside of a dog, books are man's best friend". It's hard to imagine just a few centuries back, only an elite minority were taught to read. The shift from a minority to the majority reading, has had a monumental effect on our world. Much like the growing effect of the majority now having access to the internet today.

So pull a book off the shelf and teach yourself something new today!! Just because you CAN!

on my nightstand

Yesterday I happened upon this book at my local bookstore, and I have to admit, the cover just enchanted me so much, I bought the book without knowing a thing about it.  I guess I feel the need to escape into a fantasy world for a few days . . .

food for thought

Whenever I visit someone's home, I always gravitate toward their bookshelves to see what they have been filling their minds with! I think it provides a lot of insight into their interests, plus there is nothing better than a good book recommendation!

This is my friend Gerry's library (an Irishman who's been living and working over here for the past 20+ years), I wonder if you can guess his interests?

fabulous fiction

A good friend gave me a copy of Sara Gruen's Water for Elephants for Christmas.
I'm thoroughly enjoying the musings of the aging protagonist Jacob, as in many ways they mirror my own father's coming-to-terms with growing old.
This dress and knit sweater vest were fun finds at Forever 21,  paired with knee highs and Hunter Booties
